Crestar: An Artist's Secret Weapon

Crestar is an Artist's Secret Weapon

(But Many Don't Know It!)

+ an artist feature!

Happy April Creatives & Creative Enthusiasts! As artists get into their busy outdoor vendor's season, we wanted to send out a reminder that yea.. we're here for you! However, many don't know it. In this blog we'll show all the ways Crestar can make the artist-life easier.

Not an Artist? Our Scanning, Printing, and Installation Services are Available for You Too!

My Experience as an Artist

One of the many struggles of artists (especially young, emerging artists like me) is that we just don't know all the resources available to us. We see more established artists with prints of all their works readily available, their flawless exhibition set-ups, and their endless knowledge of seemingly...well... everything in the art-world, and we go: 'what the heck!'

What's extra mind-boggling is that these established artists make it look like they're doing it all by themselves -- which some are -- but many artists have secret weapons like Crestar that cut out all the fat involved with the art-business.

What do I mean by this?

Many Artists are unaware that Crestar not only prints photographs but also scans & prints original artworks. Not only is this great for prints but being able to have high resolution photos of your work for galleries, marketing materials, and so on is important for elevating your brand as an artist.

    • From the smallest to the largest, Crestar can scan up to 1200 dpi with our 42" scanner. It has the capability to hold pieces up to 42x60"!  What is remarkable is the texture it can capture as well as color accuracy.
      • Fun Fact: While the Scanner is 42x60" we can scan works of any larger size-- as long as one side is under 60"

Crestar has two Canon printers in-house:

        • One 44" of the latest Canon Technology
        • One 60" of the Latest Canon Technology

Because of this we only use genuine Canon ink.

Our Print Room Specialist, Lisa, can also photograph your work in high resolution, for those whose artwork is bigger than 42" x 60"

Prints and original works alike get bagged, foam or cardboard backed, and cornered-- so they're ready to sell!

Notice how the walls are grey? With 5000K daylight lights and a neutral environment Lisa can color-match without the influence of her surroundings getting in the way. This creates accurate color perception and reduces eye strain when color-correcting scans.

We Print on Varying Media Types

While matte paper is most artists' choice, we have so much more to choose from:

  • Glossy Paper
  • Premium Matte Paper
  • Hahnemuhle
  • ESatin
  • Sunset Rag
  • Specialty Canvas and Canvas Paper
  • Fire Opal or Breathing Color Canvas
  • Vinyl & Wallpaper
  • Cold Press
  • Specialty Papers

Crestar keeps your files on hand so that batch-orders are a breeze!

Have a frame you love with your prints? We can save the frame type with your print order so that every print comes framed the exact same!

      • This is also true of matt-types, glass, and so on.
      • Fun Fact: We can also ship prints with certificates for editioned works needing signatures. We also make plaques! Please inquire if interested.

A Great Example of Using the same Frame Information and Duplicating it across Works!

Crestar offers Installation services even to those who didn't get works framed, printed or scanned by us!

Have a client that needs an in-home install of your artwork in New England? Our framers have you covered. This includes artworks, photographs, sculptures, and misc. decor. Now you don't have to worry about purchasing a toolbox along with your paint supplies!

My Experience Printing with Crestar

What first amazed me about using Crestar for making prints of my work was really how much texture the scanner is able to pick up and then translate into the final print. Plus, the ability to add white space in-post is a game changer! Being able to have my prints bagged and backed here also saved me time trying to find these resealable bags in bulk. If you're like me and experience task paralysis and decision fatigue when it comes to jumping into selling my work, places like Crestar take a lot of stress away. With a staff of all artists & creatives too I can ask for advice and know that I'm in the right hands.

My Prints in 7x7in and 9x12in Bagged, Foam Backed, and Table-ready!

It also helps when I advertise my work that I know my prints are archival. Being able to justify my print prices, and speak confidently about how they were made, keeps away those "uhhhh" moments! I find that clients appreciate a product they know will last.

Hello From Portsmouth: Local Artist Shares her Experience with Crestar Picture Framing

Amy Bartlett Wright is a Rhode Island based Fine Artist & Muralist specializing in scientific & scenic illustration. She is a long-term client of Crestar-- mainly coming in to scan her large paintings for future murals.

"I began my career as a scientific illustrator in 1980 and have illustrated over sixty-five books. I have used my skills as an illustrator to paint large format murals for zoos, aquariums, nature centers and museums and public arts commissions. My paintings act as background scenery or as exhibits themselves, in their accurate portrayal of animals in habitat."

Amy says Crestar has helped her be mural-ready for many projects fresh out of the studio.

"Crestar has been an integral part of my process," She says, "Especially since I can scan these works at any resolution up to 1200 dpi. I never knew about their scanning capabilities until one of the framers told meArtists should know about this!"
